Spain Tourist Arrivals Hit Record in March 2026

Spain received approximately 6.8 million international tourists in March 2026, marking a 3.3% increase compared to the same month in 2025 and setting a new record for the period, according to official data from Instituto Nacional de Estadística.

UK, Germany and France Lead Inbound Travel

The United Kingdom remained the largest source of visitors, with nearly 1.3 million arrivals, up 2.1% year-on-year. It was followed by Germany with 924,088 visitors (+2.9%) and France with 798,671 arrivals (+4.4%).

Longer Stays Drive Growth

Most tourists stayed between four and seven nights, totaling nearly 3.4 million visitors, an increase of 4.1% compared to March 2025. Short-term visitors (day trips) rose 2.2%, while long-duration stays of more than 15 nights increased 5.5%, indicating broader demand across travel segments.

Canary Islands Remain Top Destination

The Canary Islands continued to lead as the most visited destination in March, accounting for 22.9% of total arrivals, with a modest increase of 0.4% year-on-year.

Catalonia ranked second with 19.1% of arrivals, although it recorded a decline of 5.4%. Meanwhile, Andalusia posted the strongest growth among major regions, rising 10.8% and capturing 17.1% of total visitors.

Q1 Growth Remains Solid

In the first three months of 2026, Spain welcomed approximately 17.5 million international tourists, representing a 2.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

The data highlights continued resilience in Spain’s tourism sector, supported by steady demand from key European markets and diversified travel patterns across regions.
