Meta Raises Quest Headset Prices Amid Global Memory Chip Shortage

Meta Platforms is increasing prices for its virtual reality headsets, including the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S, as rising memory chip costs continue to ripple across the global technology supply chain.

According to reporting from CNET, the company will implement price increases ranging from $50 to $100 starting April 19. The Meta Quest 3S will be priced at $349.99 and $449.99 depending on configuration, while the Meta Quest 3 will rise to $599.99.

TechCrunch reports that this measure is directly linked to a global shortage of RAM and other essential memory components. Supply constraints have driven up input costs across the hardware industry, forcing manufacturers to pass part of these increases on to consumers.

Meta’s pricing adjustment places it alongside other major technology players such as Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony, all of which have recently raised prices on hardware products in response to similar cost pressures.

The development underscores a broader trend affecting consumer electronics: even as demand for immersive technologies like virtual and augmented reality grows, supply-side constraints continue to shape pricing dynamics. For Meta, which has heavily invested in building its metaverse ecosystem, the price increase introduces potential friction in consumer adoption at a critical stage of market expansion.

Analysts note that while higher prices may weigh on short-term unit sales, they could help preserve margins amid volatile component costs. At the same time, the move reflects the increasing sensitivity of hardware strategies to global semiconductor cycles.

As the industry navigates ongoing supply disruptions, pricing power—and the ability to balance cost pressures with demand—will remain a key differentiator among major technology companies.
