HSBC Launches First Digitally Native Structured Product in Hong Kong with Marketnode

HSBC has launched its first digitally native structured product in Hong Kong through a collaboration with digital markets infrastructure provider Marketnode, marking another step in the adoption of tokenization technology within capital markets.

Under the initiative, Marketnode acted as the tokenization agent and digital paying agent, supporting the on-chain issuance of the structured product while managing digital payment flows throughout its lifecycle.

The launch reflects continued efforts by financial institutions to modernize capital markets infrastructure through blockchain technology, enabling the issuance and administration of financial products using digital-native processes rather than traditional settlement systems.

The transaction uses tokenization technology to manage the issuance and servicing of the structured product on blockchain-based infrastructure. Marketnode acted as both the tokenization agent and digital paying agent, supporting the product’s on-chain issuance and payment processes.

Structured products are investment instruments whose returns are tied to the performance of underlying assets, including equities, interest rates, currencies and market indexes. Tokenization enables these instruments to be issued and administered using distributed ledger technology rather than traditional market infrastructure.

The launch comes as financial institutions increasingly explore blockchain applications for securities issuance, settlement and asset servicing. Hong Kong has introduced a series of initiatives in recent years aimed at supporting the development of tokenized financial assets and digital capital markets.

The transaction represents HSBC’s first digitally native structured product in Hong Kong and reflects the broader adoption of tokenization technologies by financial institutions seeking to expand digital asset capabilities within capital markets.
