Brazil’s Federal Police launched an operation early Friday at the residence of former president Jair Bolsonaro, following orders issued by the country’s Supreme Federal Court (STF). Simultaneous operations were also carried out at the headquarters of Bolsonaro’s political party, the Liberal Party (PL).
The court-authorized warrants include search and seizure procedures as well as precautionary measures targeting the former president. According to sources connected to CNN Brasil, Bolsonaro was taken to Federal Police headquarters to comply with the court's orders.
Among the key measures imposed:
Electronic ankle monitor
Nighttime house arrest from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., including weekends
Ban on communicating with foreign diplomats, ambassadors, or other individuals under investigation
Prohibition from accessing or using social media platforms
The restrictions are part of an investigation into alleged crimes involving:
Obstruction of justice
Coercion during legal proceedings
Acts against national sovereignty
Federal agents reportedly found U.S. dollars during the search at Bolsonaro’s residence, though no further details have been released.
The operation comes amid mounting political tension in Brazil, as multiple investigations continue into Bolsonaro’s conduct before, during, and after his presidency.
Bolsonaro’s legal team issued a brief statement calling the measures “outrageous and shocking”, expressing surprise over the court’s decision.
