Amazon has expanded its carbon credit service to the United Kingdom, marking the first international rollout of the program since its launch in the United States in 2025.
The service, available through Amazon’s Sustainability Exchange platform, is designed for companies that have already committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and are seeking additional tools to support their net-zero strategies.
The expansion comes as businesses face increasing pressure to meet climate commitments while addressing emissions that remain difficult to eliminate through operational changes alone. Carbon credits can help offset residual emissions by supporting projects that either prevent greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere or remove existing carbon dioxide.
Amazon said the service is available to UK-based organizations that have established net-zero targets by 2050 or earlier, covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, and that regularly measure and publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions.
The company stated that the eligibility requirements are intended to ensure carbon credits complement direct emissions reductions rather than replace them.
The program offers access to a portfolio of climate-related projects, including initiatives focused on reducing deforestation, restoring forests, supporting direct air capture technologies, reducing methane emissions, and promoting lower-carbon fuel alternatives across supply chains.
Among the available solutions are jurisdictional forest conservation programs in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, ecosystem restoration projects, carbon removal technologies, methane abatement initiatives, and renewable fuel credits linked to transportation and shipping activities.
Amazon noted that the voluntary carbon market has faced increased scrutiny in recent years over concerns regarding transparency, verification standards, and the effectiveness of some offset projects. The company said it applies its own evaluation process to identify projects that meet its quality criteria before making credits available through the platform.
Several UK organizations have already joined the program, including Aether Compliance, BizClik Media, Co-op Live, euNetworks, Moss UK, and Winston Taylor LLP.
The expansion is part of Amazon’s broader sustainability strategy under The Climate Pledge, through which the company has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. In addition to carbon market initiatives, Amazon continues to invest in renewable energy, fleet electrification, energy efficiency improvements, and supply-chain decarbonization efforts.
The Sustainability Exchange platform was launched to provide businesses with access to practical resources, emissions-reduction frameworks, and climate-related guidance. With the addition of the carbon credit service in the UK, Amazon is broadening access to tools aimed at helping organizations advance their climate objectives beyond their own operations.
