xAI Reports US$3.2 Billion in Revenue as AI Expansion Weighs on Profitability

xAI generated US$3.2 billion in total revenue during 2025 while reporting an operating loss of US$6.4 billion, according to financial information disclosed in SpaceX’s IPO filing.

The figures illustrate the significant costs associated with building large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure, as the company continues investing in computing capacity and AI model development.

During the first nine months of 2025, xAI used US$7.8 billion in cash, reflecting substantial spending on AI infrastructure, data centers and related technology investments.

Despite the losses, the company’s revenue continued to expand. Revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2025, nearly doubled sequentially to US$107 million, up from approximately US$53.5 million in the previous quarter.

xAI also strengthened its position in the consumer AI market through its Grok chatbot. The platform’s share of the U.S. chatbot market increased from 1.9% in January 2025 to 17.8% in January 2026, making Grok the third most-used AI chatbot in the United States.

The company also secured long-term compute agreements that are expected to provide recurring revenue over multiple years. According to the filing, Anthropic agreed to pay US$1.25 billion per month for computing services through May 2029, while Google committed to payments of US$920 million per month from October 2026 through June 2029.

Combined, the agreements represent approximately US$26 billion in annualized compute revenue, highlighting the growing commercial demand for high-performance AI computing infrastructure.

The disclosures provide one of the most detailed looks to date at xAI’s financial performance, underscoring both the scale of investment required to compete in the artificial intelligence industry and the rapid growth of demand for AI models, chatbot services and computing capacity.
