Google.org and the Johnson & Johnson Foundation have announced a $10 million philanthropic initiative designed to help rural healthcare workers across the United States develop artificial intelligence skills and better integrate emerging technologies into healthcare operations.
Under the collaboration, each organization will contribute $5 million to fund AI literacy and workforce development programs targeting healthcare professionals who serve remote and often resource-constrained communities.
According to the organizations, the initiative seeks to address the growing gap in AI adoption within rural healthcare systems while supporting medical professionals responsible for delivering care to millions of Americans.
The program will focus on three primary areas: improving AI literacy, reducing administrative workloads, and developing community-driven solutions tailored to local healthcare needs.
A key objective of the initiative is to provide healthcare workers with foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence technologies, helping both clinical and administrative staff understand how AI tools can be used safely and effectively in healthcare environments.
The organizations said training programs will be designed to improve confidence in using new technologies while supporting responsible adoption practices.
The initiative also aims to support the use of AI-powered tools that can help streamline paperwork, documentation and other administrative tasks that consume significant portions of healthcare workers’ time.
