Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) has published the official ruling confirming the unanimous rejection of the appeals filed by former president Jair Bolsonaro in the case accusing him of attempting a coup d’état and other crimes related to the January 8, 2023 attacks.
The publication of the ruling, recorded in the STF system, reinforces the decision reached by the full bench during the analysis of the latest motions for clarification, all of which were denied unanimously.

Case Enters Decisive Final Stage
With the ruling now published, the case moves into its final procedural phase, paving the way for res judicata, the point at which no further appeals capable of altering the conviction remain.
Although Bolsonaro’s legal team may still file new motions for clarification, legal scholars interviewed by national and international outlets emphasize that this type of filing does not suspend enforcement and cannot overturn the conviction.
Next Steps: Potential Arrest Order
Once all internal appeals are exhausted, the STF may authorize immediate enforcement of the sentence — including, as previously interpreted by the Court, immediate execution of imprisonment orders.
According to legal analyses published by Reuters, Associated Press, and The Washington Post, constitutional law specialists believe that following the unanimous rejection of Bolsonaro’s appeals, a possible arrest order could be issued within days or weeks — not months.
