Zillow Launches ‘Zillow Preview’ to Bring Pre-Market Home Listings Into the Open

Zillow has unveiled Zillow Preview, a new product designed to bring pre-market home listings into public view, marking a significant shift toward transparency in the U.S. residential real estate market.

The platform allows brokerages and agents to make “coming soon” listings visible to consumers before they officially hit the active market — addressing a growing trend where inventory is increasingly confined to private networks.

Launching next month, Zillow Preview will debut with major industry partners including Keller Williams, RE/MAX, HomeServices of America, Side, and United Real Estate, all aligned with a pro-transparency approach to housing data .

Opening Access to Hidden Inventory

In many U.S. markets, pre-market listings — often referred to as “coming soon” homes — are not widely accessible to the public, limiting buyer visibility and market efficiency.

Zillow Preview aims to change this dynamic by making these listings publicly available across Zillow and Trulia, as well as brokerage and agent websites, while remaining compliant with MLS frameworks.

“For 20 years, Zillow has been guided by a simple idea: real estate works best when information is open and accessible,” said CEO Jeremy Wacksman.

A Shift Toward Transparency in Real Estate

The launch reflects a broader push toward transparency in an industry often criticized for fragmented data and limited access to listings.

By expanding visibility of pre-market inventory, Zillow is positioning itself as a central marketplace where buyers can access a more complete view of available homes — without being restricted to specific brokerage networks.

The move also comes at a critical time, as affordability challenges and limited housing supply continue to pressure U.S. consumers.

Enhanced Buyer and Seller Experience

Zillow Preview introduces new capabilities designed to benefit both buyers and sellers:

  • Earlier discovery: Buyers can find, save, and share listings before they go live
  • Flexible connections: Users can choose to contact listing agents or buyer agents
  • Pre-scheduled tours: Buyers can plan visits ahead of official market listing

For sellers, the platform offers broader exposure at an earlier stage, potentially increasing competition and improving pricing outcomes.

Strategic Advantage for Agents and Brokerages

Participating agents gain increased visibility through premium placement in search results and alerts during the preview period. Additionally, Zillow introduces a revenue participation model tied to successful transactions originating from its platform.

This model aligns incentives across the ecosystem — giving agents, brokerages, and Zillow a shared interest in maximizing transparency and transaction efficiency.

Scaling Zillow’s Market Influence

Zillow remains the most visited real estate platform in the United States, reaching approximately 235 million unique users monthly and serving as a critical touchpoint for more than 70% of buyers and sellers during their home journey .

With Zillow Preview, the company strengthens its position as a central infrastructure layer in the housing market — expanding beyond listings into data access, transaction flow, and consumer engagement.
