U.S. Stock Futures Rally as Lower Oil Prices Boost Market Sentiment

U.S. stock futures advanced sharply on Monday, recovering last week’s losses as declining energy prices eased concerns over inflation and the broader economic outlook.

Futures linked to the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose about 1%, while contracts for the Nasdaq-100 gained nearly 1.5% in premarket trading.

The gains followed the suspension of military strikes between the United States and Iran over the weekend, a development that contributed to lower crude oil prices amid expectations that energy exports from the Middle East could normalize.

The decline in oil prices also pushed U.S. Treasury yields lower, easing financial conditions and reducing expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at its upcoming policy meeting. Market pricing shifted toward the possibility of any additional monetary tightening occurring later in the year.

Technology stocks led premarket gains ahead of a busy week of corporate earnings.

Amazon, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and Apple all traded higher as markets awaited their quarterly financial results, which are expected to provide further insight into artificial intelligence spending, cloud computing demand and broader technology sector performance.

Nvidia posted more modest gains of approximately 0.5%, despite reports that South Korea’s SK Hynix secured a supply agreement valued at approximately $500 billion for AI memory chips and committed $250 billion to support OpenAI’s long-term computing capacity through a data center project.

The announcement renewed attention on the pace of investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure as technology companies continue expanding data center capacity to support increasingly advanced AI models.
