U.S. Stock Futures Edge Higher After Week of Losses as Yields and Energy Prices Weigh

U.S. stock futures moved modestly higher Friday, interrupting this week’s decline as elevated energy prices, long-term Treasury yields and concerns over fiscal conditions continued to shape trading.

Futures tied to the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq 100 advanced about 0.3%.

Long-dated Treasury yields remained elevated, while the U.S. dollar held onto recent losses. The moves came as higher inflation risks, federal deficit concerns and record corporate debt issuance remained important factors for borrowing costs.

AI and Chip Stocks Head for Sharp Weekly Losses

Semiconductor companies and major technology groups tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure were little changed in premarket trading after substantial declines earlier in the week.

Intel, AMD and Seagate were each on course to finish the week about 10% lower. Meta and Broadcom were heading for declines of roughly 7%.

The weakness follows a period of strong performance across AI-related stocks, with higher bond yields increasing pressure on valuations while the capital requirements associated with AI infrastructure remain elevated.

Walmart Heads for 10% Weekly Drop

Walmart was on track to end the week about 10% lower following its latest earnings report.

The retailer posted a rare earnings miss on Thursday, adding another data point to the assessment of U.S. consumer conditions after recent economic indicators showed signs of softer spending and labor-market momentum.

Friday’s modest rebound leaves U.S. equities facing a weekly decline, with movements in Treasury yields, energy prices and technology shares remaining central to the market backdrop.
