The Federal Police (PF) arrested former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) at his residence in Brasília early this morning. In an official statement, the PF confirmed that it executed a preventive arrest warrant requested by the Federal Police itself and authorized by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
Unmarked police vehicles arrived at Bolsonaro’s home, located in a private condominium in the Jardim Botânico area, shortly before sunrise. The former president was taken into custody and transported to the PF Superintendence, where he arrived at approximately 6:35 a.m.
According to PF sources, the request for preventive detention was reinforced after Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), the former president’s eldest son, called for a vigil in front of the condominium. Investigators assessed that the mobilization could pose risks to public order and interfere with ongoing operations.
Upon arrival at the PF headquarters, Bolsonaro was taken to the National Institute of Criminalistics (INC) for a standard forensic medical examination.
Bolsonaro’s legal team has not yet issued an official statement.
Further updates are expected from the Federal Police and the Supreme Federal Court throughout the day.
Developing story.
