Peninsula Papagayo, a 1,400-acre private club and resort community in northern Costa Rica, announces the grand opening of Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (pronounced NEK-ah-wee) – the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Central and South America and the eighth in the world. The property was developed by Mohari Hospitality and Gencom through a joint venture.
Perched on a dramatic oceanfront bluff, Nekajui features 107 ocean-facing rooms, including suites, three luxury treetop tents, and 36 branded private residences, all offering breathtaking panoramic views.
SB Architects and Gensler led the architectural vision of the property, drawing inspiration from the grand haciendas of the Guanacaste Province where the resort is located. The Athens Group, a previous partner to both Mohari and Gencom, ensured that Nekajui’s design and construction honor its natural surroundings. Together, the partners utilized rich cultural details and artisanal craftsmanship to create a sense of timelessness, inviting guests on an immersive architectural journey that bridges past and present.
A Destination Unlike Any Other
Mohari Hospitality and Gencom acquired Peninsula Papagayo’s assets in 2016. Together, they have taken a unique approach to development, helping Peninsula Papagayo create a cohesive brand experience across its hotels, residences, club, and recreational amenities, providing guests and homeowners a deep connection to the community.
Over the years, the strategic partnership between Mohari and Gencom has driven significant enhancements, solidifying Peninsula Papagayo as one of the world’s most exceptional resort-residential destinations in one of the world’s most peaceful and biodiverse countries. In addition to Nekajui, the community currently includes Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo, Bahias by Antoine Predock, the Clubhouse at Prieta Beach, the Arnold Palmer Signature Ocean Course at Peninsula Papagayo, Marina Papagayo, as well as an exclusive collection of oceanfront homes and villas.
New capital projects underway in Peninsula Papagayo include:
