Eaton’s President of Energy Solutions and Services, Angie McMillin, delivered a keynote address at the Reuters Energy LIVE 2025 conference in Houston on December 9, highlighting the strategies shaping the next era of American energy infrastructure.
Her presentation focused on rapid on-site power deployment, energy resilience, sustainability, and the emerging role of grid-interactive buildings in the United States.
During the session, McMillin showcased Eaton’s latest initiative with the Town of Manchester, Connecticut.
The company is delivering a clean energy microgrid for the new Manchester Public Library, which is set to become the first newly constructed public library in the state to integrate fully grid-interactive renewable energy, battery storage and electric vehicle charging.
The project illustrates how municipal infrastructure can adopt innovative power management solutions to reduce costs, strengthen resilience and support the broader electrical grid.
According to Eaton, the library’s system will combine solar photovoltaics, battery storage and EV charging in a configuration designed to maximize on-site energy production and minimize strain on local distribution systems. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the facility is expected to achieve Zero Net Energy readiness, supported by Eaton’s Buildings as a Grid approach, which enables buildings to function as flexible energy assets.
McMillin described the Manchester project as a model for the future of community energy resilience.
The building’s energy system will leverage 370 kilowatts of solar generation paired with advanced battery storage to reduce electricity costs and provide carbon-friendly power.
Eaton will deliver electrical infrastructure, turnkey engineering and return on investment modeling.
Its microgrid control system and the xStorage battery energy storage solution will help the library store excess solar power and export electricity back to the grid during peak periods, enhancing grid stability.
The project also includes EV charging systems developed in partnership with ChargePoint, an industry-first collaboration intended to provide energy-efficient charging infrastructure and support local electrification goals.
By synchronizing renewables, storage, charging and energy markets, the facility will create a dynamic, responsive energy environment capable of adjusting to real-time demand.
The development is backed by federal tax credits, state and local funding and incentives available through the Energy Storage Solutions program, overseen by the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority and administered by the Connecticut Green Bank, Eversource and the United Illuminating Company.
Eaton, founded in 1911, has evolved into a global leader in intelligent power management, serving customers in more than 160 countries.
With revenue approaching 25 billion dollars in 2024, the company supports sectors including data centers, utilities, industry, aerospace and mobility. Eaton’s mission centers on operating sustainably and helping communities and businesses manage power safely, reliably and efficiently.
