Prometheus, the artificial intelligence startup co-founded by Jeff Bezos and Vik Bajaj, has raised $12 billion in fresh funding, valuing the company at approximately $41 billion as investors continue to pour capital into next-generation AI technologies.
The financing round attracted backing from major financial institutions, including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and BlackRock, alongside additional investment from Bezos. The new funding follows a $6.2 billion capital raise completed last year.
Prometheus is developing what it describes as an “artificial general engineer,” an AI system designed to automate complex engineering tasks across multiple disciplines. The company aims to create technology capable of supporting product development, design, problem-solving, and technical decision-making processes that traditionally require highly skilled engineering teams.
The fundraising highlights continued investor enthusiasm for advanced AI platforms as companies race to expand capabilities beyond today’s generative AI models. Venture capital and institutional investors have increasingly focused on technologies that promise broader automation across knowledge-intensive industries.
Bezos has argued that artificial intelligence is more likely to address future labor shortages than eliminate large numbers of jobs. According to the company’s vision, AI systems could help offset growing demand for technical expertise as industries face demographic shifts and increasing complexity in engineering and manufacturing operations.
The latest funding round places Prometheus among the world’s most highly valued AI startups, reflecting growing confidence that AI-driven automation could reshape how engineering work is performed across sectors ranging from manufacturing and infrastructure to software and advanced technology development.
With $12 billion in new capital, the company is expected to accelerate research, computing infrastructure investments, and talent acquisition as competition intensifies among firms seeking to develop increasingly capable AI systems.
