Ferrari’s First Electric Car Sells Out Its 2027 Allocation Despite Mixed Design Reviews

Ferrari has secured orders covering its entire planned 2027 allocation of the Luce, the Italian automaker’s first fully electric vehicle, despite criticism of the model’s unconventional design following its debut in May.

Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna confirmed the development during Ferrari’s third-quarter earnings presentation on November 3, saying the company was satisfied with demand for the new model.

The five-seat electric vehicle, developed with design contributions from former Apple design chief Jony Ive, is priced at approximately $615,000, according to TechCrunch.

Initial customer deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, with additional test drives scheduled for 2027.

Demand Exceeds Available Production Allocation

Ferrari said its planned 2027 production allocation had already been assigned to customers, although the company did not disclose the number of vehicles involved.

The Luce attracted criticism following its unveiling, particularly over styling choices that differ from Ferrari’s traditional sports car designs.

However, Vigna said the company had not identified significant problems involving production or customer demand.

The executive also indicated that additional test drives could generate further interest in the model.

Ferrari is developing other electric vehicles as part of its longer-term strategy, which targets fully electric models representing 20% of its vehicle lineup by 2030.

Customization Revenue Supports Earnings

Ferrari reported third-quarter revenue of approximately €1.9 billion, an increase of 7% from the previous year.

Net income rose 13% to €431 million, while operating profit reached €563 million, representing an operating margin of 29.7%.

Customer personalization accounted for more than 21% of revenue from cars and spare parts, reflecting demand for bespoke finishes and optional features.

The company also benefited from deliveries of higher-margin vehicles, including its limited-production F80 hypercar.

Following the results, Ferrari raised its 2026 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization forecast to at least €3 billion, compared with its previous guidance of €2.97 billion.

Ferrari’s overall order book now extends into 2028.

The Luce’s fully allocated 2027 production represents an early indicator of demand for Ferrari’s electric vehicle offering. Its contribution to the company’s financial results will become clearer as customer deliveries begin.
