Meta Platforms is launching a new enterprise artificial-intelligence business and has recruited MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai to lead the initiative, expanding its AI strategy beyond consumer products and advertising into tools designed for companies and developers.
Desai will become chief enterprise platform officer at Meta, reporting directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He will oversee the new Meta Enterprise Platform, which is intended to turn Meta’s AI models, agents and developer technologies into products that businesses can deploy in their own operations.
Meta Takes Its AI Stack Into the Enterprise Market
The new platform will bring together several of Meta’s recently developed AI products, including Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code, and make them available to businesses and developers.
Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent launched earlier this month, can perform tasks on a user’s behalf, including sending emails and arranging travel. Meta has been rapidly expanding the product and its integrations as it seeks to build a broader ecosystem around AI agents.
The enterprise initiative gives Meta another potential route for generating revenue from the substantial investment it has made in artificial intelligence infrastructure, models and products.
The company is entering a competitive enterprise AI market in which technology groups are increasingly seeking to integrate AI agents into corporate workflows, software development and customer-facing services.
CJ Desai Leaves MongoDB for Meta
Desai’s appointment also triggered a major leadership change at MongoDB.
The executive stepped down as the database software company’s president and CEO after less than a year in the position. Former MongoDB CEO Dev Ittycheria returned as interim chief executive while the company begins a search for a permanent replacement.
MongoDB shares fell about 18% following news of Desai’s departure, reflecting investors’ reaction to the unexpected leadership transition.
Before MongoDB, Desai held senior positions at technology companies including ServiceNow and Cloudflare.
Meta Looks for New AI Revenue
Meta’s enterprise expansion comes as the company looks for ways to translate its growing portfolio of AI technologies into commercial products beyond its core advertising business.
The company has already begun extending Muse into the small-business market. New integrations include platforms such as Shopify, QuickBooks, Stripe and Canva, allowing businesses to use the agent across areas including sales, accounting, payments and marketing.
The Meta Enterprise Platform broadens that strategy by targeting companies and developers directly, positioning Meta’s AI agents, APIs and coding tools as infrastructure that organizations can incorporate into their own operations.
