Nvidia Takes Stake in Cloverleaf as AI Power Infrastructure Investment Accelerates

Nvidia has acquired a minority stake in data-center infrastructure developer Cloverleaf Infrastructure, extending the chipmaker’s investment deeper into the power systems needed to support rapidly expanding artificial intelligence computing capacity.

Cloverleaf, founded in 2024, develops large-scale power infrastructure by working with utilities and data-center operators to connect new computing facilities to electricity supply.

The company previously raised $300 million to support its expansion as electricity availability becomes an increasingly critical constraint on new data-center development.

Investment Could Reach Hundreds of Millions

Financial terms of Nvidia’s investment were not disclosed. The Wall Street Journal reported that the commitment is expected to reach several hundred million dollars.

The investment gives Nvidia exposure to another layer of the AI infrastructure buildout beyond the GPUs and computing systems for which the company is best known.

As hyperscalers and AI developers build increasingly large computing clusters, access to electricity, transmission capacity and suitable data-center sites has emerged as a major challenge for the industry.

Nvidia Expands Beyond Chips Into AI Infrastructure

The Cloverleaf transaction follows another major infrastructure commitment from Nvidia.

Days earlier, the company committed $1.5 billion to SB Energy, which is developing an OpenAI-linked data-center project in Ohio.

The investments illustrate Nvidia’s expanding role across the AI ecosystem as the company directs capital toward businesses responsible for building the physical infrastructure required to deploy its computing technology.

Power has become particularly important as next-generation AI data centers require substantially greater electricity capacity than traditional computing facilities.

For Nvidia, supporting companies capable of bringing additional data-center capacity online could ultimately help expand the market for its own accelerated computing systems.

The Cloverleaf investment adds to a broader wave of capital flowing toward electricity generation, grid connections and data-center infrastructure as artificial intelligence pushes computing requirements to unprecedented levels.
