Apple is cutting more than 200 positions across teams working on Vision Pro, Siri and artificial intelligence-related products as the technology giant reallocates resources toward newer AI initiatives, Bloomberg reported.
Roughly 100 of the affected positions are tied to the Vision Pro organization, with additional reductions involving Siri and the Intelligent Systems Experience group, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg.
Apple confirmed the workforce reductions, describing them as affecting a limited number of employees. The company also said it plans to create new positions as part of the organizational changes.
Apple Reallocates Resources Toward AI
The restructuring comes as Apple increases its focus on artificial intelligence, an area that has become one of the technology industry’s largest sources of investment and competition.
Rather than signaling a broad workforce reduction, the changes appear concentrated within specific organizations as Apple shifts resources toward emerging AI initiatives and adjusts priorities across its hardware and software operations.
The cuts also affect the Vision Pro organization, which develops Apple’s mixed-reality platform. Approximately half of the reported job reductions are expected to come from that group.
Rising Hardware Costs Add Pressure
The reorganization comes amid higher costs for memory components, according to Bloomberg, adding pressure to the economics of Apple’s flagship devices as demand for advanced memory increases across the technology and AI industries.
The broader surge in AI infrastructure investment has increased competition for components used across data centers and consumer electronics, making semiconductor supply and pricing an increasingly important consideration for major technology companies.
Apple’s decision to eliminate some positions while simultaneously creating new roles underscores the changing allocation of talent and capital as the company seeks to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence.
