OpenAI Reports Strong Revenue Growth in Early 2026

OpenAI’s revenue growth accelerated sharply in early 2026, underscoring the rapid commercial adoption of generative artificial intelligence while also highlighting the rising cost structure behind large-scale AI infrastructure.

The company said it was generating about $2 billion in monthly revenue by March 2026, compared with approximately $1 billion in quarterly revenue at the end of 2024. OpenAI also reported that annualized revenue reached about $25 billion by February 2026, up from roughly $13 billion in 2025.

Business customers have become an increasingly important part of OpenAI’s revenue base. The company’s enterprise customer count reached about 2 million, contributing approximately 40% of total revenue, with expectations that the segment could account for about half of revenue by the end of 2026.

Despite the revenue expansion, OpenAI continues to operate with significant losses, reflecting heavy spending on computing infrastructure, research and development, and commercialization. The company reported a net loss of $21.3 billion in the first quarter of 2026, widening from the prior year.

The figures illustrate the central tension facing the artificial intelligence sector: demand for AI products is expanding at a rapid pace, but the cost of training, deploying and scaling advanced models remains substantial. For OpenAI, continued growth in enterprise adoption may be critical to improving revenue visibility as competition intensifies across the AI market.

Financial terms, future profitability targets and a detailed path to margin expansion were not disclosed.
